Companies That Produce the Most Plastic and the Negative Effects of It

Published on 6/27/2024

Plastic has been used in the industries for decades. We use materials made out of plastic daily.

Just like its advantages, plastic has many disadvantages too.

Plastic production has significantly risen in the recent decades. The United States of America is one of the countries that plays a major role in this production. In 2019, North America had produced nearly 20% of plastic globally.

There are many companies around the world that are responsible for most of the plastic produced materials in the world. Dow Chemical and ExxonMobil chemical division based in the U.S.A, are two of them.

Here is a list of 8 largest companies that most contribute to the production of the plastic in the world:

  1. Dow Chemical

  2. Hanwool Corporation

  3. LyondellBasell

  4. Ihne & Tesch GmbH

  5. ExxonMobil

  6. Matsui Technologies India Ltd

  7. SABIC

  8. Acros Pvt. Ltd.

The world currently produces around 450 million tonnes of plastic waste annually. It is estimated that between 1 and 2 million tons of plastic enter the oceans each year which is accounting for approximately 0.5% of plastic waste.

The production of million tons of plastic every single year has a serious negative effect on our environment.

  1. Pollution: Plastic waste pollutes land, waterways and oceans. It is a threat to wildlife because animals may ingest or become entangled in them.

  2. Microplastics: Over time, larger plastic items break down into tiny particles called microplastics. They can be found in soil, water and even the air. They are harmful for aquatic life and even may enter the food chain.

  3. Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Plastic production contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. The extraction of fossil fuels which is used to make plastic and after that the manufacturing processes release carbon dioxide and other pollutants that ultimately increase greenhouse gas.

  4. Longevity: Plastic can persist for centuries. They are hard to break down and impact ecosystems and landscapes. Even “biodegradable” plastics take a long time to break down.

Plastic is a useful material, but the overproduction of this element is harmful for our environment and us, the living beings on this planet. Let’s remember that we have only one planet.

How to Reduce the Effect of Plastic on Our Environment

Published on 6/24/2024

The negative effects of plastic are undeniable and need to be prevented as soon as possible. There are multiple ways that we can slow down and have positive impacts on our environment.

  1. Reduce Single-Use Plastics:

Single-use plastics are one of the most harmful types of plastics for our environment. They are not reusable and produce pollution greatly. Opt for reusable alternatives (e.g., cloth bags, stainless steel straws) instead of disposable plastics. Say no to plastic cutlery, cups and water bottles whenever possible and make a habit to use other options.

Let’s start from ourselves first!

  1. Recycle Properly:

Follow local recycling guidelines. Rinse and separate recyclables. Recycling is one of the most effective ways of helping our nature and ourselves. It helps us reduce pollution, save energy and decrease the amount of waste. Other than that, if you see the chance, educate others about recycling practices too.

  1. Support Bans and Regulations:

Advocate for policies that limit plastic production and ban single-use plastics. Since plastic is used a lot in the industries, businesses may be resistant to the idea of changing their methods and materials, but we need to start from somewhere and do something for our environment. Instead, encourage businesses to adopt sustainable practices.

Little by little, we can move towards a better future!

  1. Clean Up Litter:

Participate in community clean-up events to remove plastic waste from beaches, parks and waterways. By working together, we can make a change. We can be role models for other individuals and encourage them to join our community.

Every single positive move, no matter small or big, has an effect!

  1. Choose Sustainable Packaging:

Support companies that use eco-friendly packaging materials and encourage others to do the same. Let’s make the use of eco-friendly alternatives a culture for ourselves. Besides, look for products with minimal plastic packaging. As it is mentioned above, let’s start from ourselves and expand it to our communities.

  1. Promote Awareness:

Educate others about plastic pollution and its impact. Being informed about this crisis is one of the significantly important things that needs to be done. Spreading awareness is an essential element for us to remember and take action when needed. Share information on social media, organize campaigns or any other way that is useful and respectful towards others rights.

Every single move will have an influence.

Remember, together we can make a significant difference in reducing plastic’s harm to our planet! 🌎♻️

How Air Pollution is Caused and What Are its Effects

Published on 06/30/2024

Air pollution is the result of releasing harmful substances to the air. Those substances pollute the atmosphere around us and cause many effects. Air pollution is not a recent crisis. According to some records, it is dated back to centuries even before the industrial revolution. Air pollution causes various harm to people, animals and the environment. It is another crisis mostly caused by human activities on earth.

Some of the main causes of air pollution are fossil fuel combustion such as burning gasoline in cars, oil for home heating and fracked gas in power plants. All of them release pollutants. Another cause is the industrial processes like manufacturing, chemical production and coal-fired power plants that contribute to this crisis. Besides, some agricultural activities also pollute the air. For example, farming activities include methane emissions from livestock, but not as much as the causes mentioned above.

Likewise the other environmental crises, air pollution too, has devastating impacts on humans, animals and the environment. Air pollution is linked to the death of nearly 7 million people every single year. It is harmful for respiratory diseases, heart conditions and cancer. It also affects climate change. Greenhouse gasses trap the heat which exacerbates global warming. Causing more damages. Another negative effect is on the ecosystem. It influences the soil quality, water and wildlife. Many creatures who play no role in causing this crisis are destined to suffer such as wild animals.

Let’s remember that we only have one planet. 🌎🌿

This process leads to an increase in the purchase of domestic products.  Other types of trade barriers include: quotes, subsidies, import licenses, standards and regulations, and many more.  Tariffs; The Process As mentioned above, tariffs raise the price of foreign goods for domestic consumers. When tariffs are imposed, the im...

The Power of Compound Interest Explained Simply

What is interest Interest is basically the cost you pay for borrowing money, or you earn interest by lending money to someone else.  Types of interest There are two main types of interest: simple interest, and compound interest.  1. Simple interest is when you pay or earn interest (money) from your original amount of money, also referred to as principal.  P = Principal (the starting amount of money) R = Rate of interest (per year, in %) T = Time (in years) For example, if you borrow $1,000 at 5% interest per year, in 3 year you pay: SI = (1000 * 5 * 3) / 100 = 15000 / 100 = 150 You pay $150 in interest after 3 years. Total = Principal + Interest = P + SI  In the example: 1000+150 =1150  So you will have $1,150 after 3 years. 2. Compound interest is, in simple words, interest on interest. Compound interest is when you earn or pay interest on both your principal and its interest that has been added over time. This method allows your money to grow faster because...
